No on Gonzales

Today, I am joining the call initiated by Kos, joining the chorus of bloggers from across the world voicing their dismay at Bush's selection of Alberto Gonzales for Attorney-General.

The Attorney-General is supposed to defend the US Constitution, to ensure it is protected against all assaults. Mr. Gonzales has spent a lifetime attacking that document, and during the last few years has extended his attack to international agreements as well. Mr. Gonzales referred to the Geneva Conventions as "quaint", he has suggested that the President is not bound by the Constitution and drafted a document which all but condoned torture.

This is not a man who will protect the Constitution, this is a man who will attempt to destroy it. The United States was once the pride of the Western World, the birthplace of freedom, a beacn of hope for people all over the world. John Ashcroft has done enough damage to that image, do not let Alberto Gonzales finish the job.
